The Palace
A Precious and Elegant Historic Residence
Palazzo Candida is a historic residence dating back to the 1500s, founded by Bishop Andrea Candida, a nobleman of Syracusan origin who served as a prelate in 1552. Appointed Bishop by Pope Julius III and consecrated in Rome, he led the Diocese for 21 years. His remains are preserved in the Cathedral of Gerace, marked by a precious tombstone commemorating his significant works. He instituted the Celebration of Saint Lucia in Gerace and spread the devotion to the Virgin and Martyr of Syracuse throughout the Diocese.
Located on the main street of the historic village of Gerace, just steps away from the majestic Minor Basilica, Palazzo Candida reveals a panoramic garden and sumptuous halls, ideal for hosting your events.
Following an extensive 20-year-long restoration that enhanced its original structure, this noble residence opened to the public in 2018. It is the perfect retreat for those who wants to escape the “madding crowd” and rediscover the slow rhythms of onetime holidays made of good reads, pleasant chats, and daytrips to explore historical, architectural, and natural wonders.
